Otto (“Otto,” “we,” “us”) provides a workforce time-tracking and job-management tool used by trades and contracting businesses. This policy explains what information the Otto mobile app and web dashboard collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Otto is an employer-provided tool. You use it with an account created by your employer, and the information you provide through Otto—including your work hours and location while on the clock—is visible to your employer as part of managing your work.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your name and email address, used to identify you and sign you in. Your employer provides these when they set up your account.
- Location information. When you are clocked in, the app collects your device’s precise location, including in the background, to record where work is performed and to verify that crew are at their assigned job site. Location is collected only while you have an active shift; it stops when you clock out.
- Work activity. Clock-in and clock-out times, the job or project you are assigned to, and related time records.
How we use information
- To record and report your work hours to your employer.
- To verify job-site attendance and support accurate payroll and job costing.
- To operate, secure, and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your location to track you across other companies’ apps or for advertising.
How information is shared
Your information is shared with your employer, who administers your account and reviews the work records described above. We also use trusted service providers to host and run Otto (for example, cloud hosting and mapping providers); they may process information only to provide those services to us. We may disclose information if required by law.
Your choices
You can turn off location permission at any time in your device settings. Because location verification is a core part of how Otto records field work, disabling it may prevent clock-in or limit the app’s function for your employer. Questions about the data your employer holds should be directed to your employer; you may also contact us using the details below.
Data retention
We retain work records and account information for as long as your employer maintains an active account with Otto, and as needed to comply with legal and recordkeeping obligations. When an account is closed, associated data is deleted or anonymized within a reasonable period.
Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards—including encryption in transit and access controls that isolate each company’s data—to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Children
Otto is a workplace tool intended for use by adults in an employment context. It is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Otto after a change means you accept the revised policy.
